“ True independence and  freedom can only exist in  doing what’s right.” - Brigham Young.

We are facing a lot of challenges that pose a threat to our independence which is a pressing concern that has to be combated at the earliest. Some challenges that cause peril to freedom are discussed below.

Increased Inequalities :-

Due to development in agriculture, healthcare facilities and scientific inventions, our standard of living has increased significantly. This has led to the challenges of increasing population, pollution, and unsustainable use of resources to satisfy the increasing demand for our needs. This has resulted in multiple problems like improper urban planning, lack of sanitation facilities, drinking water, food, shelter, energy scarcity, etc. Globalization and transportation have transformed our lives, but now we are building the walls of aggressive nationalism which is reflected through trade wars, increasing tariffs, cyber threats and social diplomacy. This has caused an increase in the division between rural-urban, north-south, developed-developing including other economic, social and political inequalities. Are we working enough to see that no one Is left behind?

Hunger :-

Even a single child going hungry throws shame on the entire human species, but today, according to the World Health Organization, 850 million people go hungry everyday which adds to nearly one-tenth of the total world population. Hunger, poverty, climate change, population, pollution, floods, droughts, heatwaves, food security are all related to each other. All this can be solved by improving awareness, education, research and use of better environment friendly alternatives. We need to cooperate with one another for the betterment of all, but instead of doing this when the world Is coming closer, the people are going away because of selfish Interests.

Climate Change :-

Climate change leads to rising temperatures and extreme weather events, causing more frequent floods, droughts, and heatwaves. It results in melting ice caps and rising sea levels, threatening coastal communities. Additionally, it disrupts ecosystems, impacts food security, and poses significant health risks. The economic and social consequences further exacerbate inequalities and tensions worldwide. Carbon tax is an effective solution to address the escalating concerns surrounding carbon emissions. By imposing a financial charge on carbon emissions, it encourages businesses and individuals to reduce their carbon footprint, invest in cleaner technologies, and adopt more sustainable practices. Ultimately, taking action on carbon emissions is not just about individual countries.

Civil Society Participation :-

This chain of problems can be stopped if we plan and execute policies by reducing the shortcomings. For this, active participation of every citizen is important. After-all, we are global citizens and we need to work for our brothers and sisters in every part of the world. We need to be mindful of the fundamental human values of community welfare, compassion, sympathy, etc.

“Without moral and  intellectual independence  there is no anchor for  national independence” – David Ben-Gurion.

Let us all strive together to safeguard our independence and create a safe environment for us and our upcoming generations to live at peace.
